Pharmaceutical company Duchesnay has sponsored a new website called Laughing without Leaking, located at <http://www.laughingwithoutleaking.ca>. The site encourages women to discuss urinary stress incontinence, which can result in the leakage of small amounts of urine during laughing, coughing, sneezing or similar activities. Most sections of the site are open to the general public, with some discussion areas restricted to registered users. "Urinary stress incontinence results from a weakness of the pelvic floor muscles," said urogynecologist Dr. Donna Fedorkow of McMaster University. "Conditions such as obesity, vaginal delivery of large babies and conditions of chronic cough contribute to the development of urinary stress incontinence. Women often describe the leakage of drops or dribbles of urine. Treatments are directed towards strengthening the pelvic floor muscles. The website Laughing without Leaking is a valuable source of information and support for women suffering from urinary stress incontinence."
