Blue Ant Media readies Smithsonian Channel

Blue Ant Media of Toronto will launch a new specialty television channel in Canada this fall called the Smithsonian Channel. The channel will be operated in association with New York-based Smithsonian Networks, which is a joint venture of the Smithsonian Institution and Showtime Networks. This will be the first international version of the channel, which specializes in documentaries and other programs of a historical, cultural or scientific nature. The high-definition channel will take the place of EQHD in Blue Ant's national lineup. It will be accompanied by a series of mobile applications. "Our agreement with Smithsonian Channel allows one of the most unique US television networks to provide the Canadian market with programming that we feel our viewers will really respond to," said Michael MacMillan, CEO of Blue Ant Media. "This channel will be a significant addition to our premium high definition specialty television services as we continue to build a strong, independent media company."
