Stay in Medicine Hat conducts speedway promotion

The Medicine Hat Accommodation Association, based in Medicine Hat, AB, recently conducted a promotion in that city as part of its "#thishappenshere" social media tourism campaign. The initiative, developed by Village&Co. of Vancouver, took place in conjunction with Medicine Hat Speedway. Three Canadian bloggers from key markets were invited to spend a day at the racetrack and ride in a race car. The bloggers included Ricky Forbes of Tornado Hunter, Tara Richter of Feisty Frugal & Fabulous and Alison Van Dyke of Mad in The Hat.

The campaign also includes a contest component, conducted via the Stay in Medicine Hat Facebook page. Consumers can enter the contest by sharing a video about the raceway. The winner will receive a similar ride-along experience at the track.

"Engaging with a diverse range of bloggers offered a great opportunity for Stay in Medicine Hat to reach potential visitors in key markets," said Justin Young, creative director at Village&Co. "Leveraging the bloggers' pre-existing audience allowed MHAA to share their truly unique tourism activities with an already socially engaged community."

The overall campaign, which began earlier this year, is intended to inform potential visitors about the activities and events that can be found in the city.
