Nikon conducts Facebook promotion

Camera company Nikon has begun a social media campaign in support of its line of lenses. The campaign, developed by One Advertising of Toronto, focuses on the photography options available through the use of different camera lenses. The campaign makes use of a Facebook application that encourages consumers to share their pictures, along with information about their cameras and lenses, via an interactive map of the world. Submitted pictures are displayed along with a Google street view image for comparison.

The effort has also included participation in a number of events, including Luminato, the TD Jazz Festival, the Redpath Waterfront Festival and the Honda Indy. At these events, the company distributed information detailing how to upload photographs to the map.

"This is about a sense of community, art and things that are important to all of us," said Karen Howe, creative director at One Advertising. "Birthdays, trips, graduations, special moments. This is not about taking a selfie. It's more about de-mystifying a way to use a quality piece of camera equipment and enjoy it. The street view comparison is an important way to enhance the experience and motivate the average photographer. The juxtaposition of the typical street view versus the visual magic we create through artistic interpretation represents a classic before and after."
