Bell Media, Lionsgate sign Starz agreement

Bell Media of Toronto has signed an agreement with Lionsgate of Santa Monica, CA to develop a Canadian edition of its pay television service Starz. This will be the first time the channel will be available in this country, and the first international expansion for the brand. Bell will rebrand its existing pay television channel TMN Encore as Starz in early 2019. Starz content will also be available on the CraveTV online video streaming service. The channel will offer a range of feature films and television series.

"Bell Media is the ideal partner to introduce Starz to Canadian audiences," said Jim Packer, president of worldwide television and digital distribution at Lionsgate. "The Canadian marketplace offers tremendous opportunities for growth, and this multifaceted agreement enables us to deliver the robust slate of Starz premium programming as well as the future first pay television window for Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment films to Bell Media platforms."
