New president, CEO and Pelmorex

Pelmorex of Oakville, ON has appointed Sam Sebastian to the position of president and chief executive officer. He was previously a vice-president and managing director of Canadian operations at Google. Sebastian has also worked at Classified Ventures and Arthur Andersen LLP. Company founder and outgoing CEO Pierre Morrissette will become executive chairman on Sept. 5.

Pelmorex, formerly Pelmorex Media, is the operator of The Weather Network, MétéoMédia, and Clima. According to the company, the staffing changes are part of an expansion of Pelmorex's operations to include data and analytics services. The company has created two new divisions called Pelmorex Weather Networks and Pelmorex Data Solutions. The company's shortened name is also intended to better reflect this expansion.

"We have been focused on addressing the company's CEO succession needs as well as attracting top talent to execute the company's transformative strategy and aggressive international expansion plans," said Morrissette. "Sam is a perfect fit, both culturally and in terms of experience and expertise. Simply put, he is a tremendous leader and a great people person. We have come a long way since 1989 but today marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter and we are only getting started."
